Well, Christmas is just around the corner, and for most of us, the festive season is a time to eat, drink and be merry. While we encourage you to enjoy yourself, overindulging in the festive season can lead to the dreaded weight gain in the new year and see you working twice as hard to work it off come January.
That’s why we have come up with 4 easy tips that mean you can enjoy the festive season without packing on the kilos.
1.The Main Event
It can be easy to be swept up in the never-ending food on rotation at Christmas however what ends up happening is that you mindlessly eat all day so you don’t know when you are actually full or hungry. What we suggest here is if you can keep the grazing to a minimum and focus more on the main meal whether it be Christmas lunch or dinner you will probably feel better for it. Stop at one or two snacks and focus on the main event.
You have heard it before and we are not here to lecture it is easy to forget with the never-ending supply of champagne and soft drinks that you still need to make sure you are drinking water. Make sure you are having one glass of water between every alcoholic drink and if it is a hot day as it usually is on an Aussie Christmas then double your water intake!
If you are the type of person that demolishes a meal in 5 minutes, Christmas is a time to slow down. Eating your meal slowly keeps you aware of how much you are eating, and keep in mind it takes the mind about 30 minutes to register when your body is full. Take it slow and savor every minute of your Christmas lunch before running inside to serve the Pavlova.
Christmas is only one day, not two weeks don’t make it a marathon. Try and plan some healthy meals and snacks for next week leading up to Christmas, so that come to Christmas Eve through to boxing day you can indulge without the guilt. This will help avoid the momentous weight gain by really overindulging.
