You don't need a gym

I live out in the middle of nowhere, so going to the gym has never really been an option for me! I have always worked out at home. Over time I've got more and more equipment but most workouts I do only require one set of weights and resistance bands. And don't stress - there's plenty you can do with no equipment at all!

Find your workout on YouTube or an app

My number one tip would be to find an app or YouTube channel to follow - unless you're the super organised type who enjoys researching and writing your workouts down (power to you!) apps and YouTube are brilliant for workouts. There are so many out there so shop around a little, particularly on YouTube I think it's important to find someone that inspires you (and you don't find annoying). If you're anything like me you might end up calling them some pretty mean names when they're making you work hard!

Turn up the music

I'd also say make sure you have some good music to listen to. No matter what you're doing - whether you're out on a walk or lifting weights it's always 100x better when you're listening to your favourite tunes.

Don't take yourself too seriously

Don't take your journey too serious! Once you've got your plan together give it time and a red-hot go. I've done it before where I've been so focused and I'm researching things to figure out what else I can do to be fitter and healthier and there's so much conflicting information online and one person tells you to do this and the other says no don't do that and it can get really confusing.

Any ”˜exercise time' is ”˜good time'

Try to make time for exercising. It might only be for half an hour but have a plan when you're going to do it for the day. My usual motivator is no dinner until you've done your exercise so I get it done fairly promptly! Play around with it and find when it works easiest for you.

Feel good in your favourite exercise gear

My final tip for working out at home is to make sure you still put a little effort in when choosing your workout gear. It might seem silly and maybe no one will even see you but I swear it makes a difference. I've worn some pretty unfortunate outfits when I've been working out at home and I don't know what it is but they never seem as good as when I've worn my good gear. Like they say look, feel good!
