The internet is an interesting place, with endless information allowing us to educate us on matters we mightn’t even know about otherwise, but there’s just as much misinformation out there which can be dangerous especially when it comes to health!

If you’ve got a medical question, it’s best to speak to your doctor because there are far too many myths online that people still believe.

Myth #1: Wearing A Wired Bra Causes Breast Cancer

This myth spread like wildfire and unfortunately, it’s still circulating the internet and being debated even though it’s not true! There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support this claim. A healthy lifestyle and regular mammograms starting at age 45 are your best bet in both prevention and early detection.

Myth #2: You Don’t Have To Worry About Heart Disease

Women are at risk of developing heart disease, and not just after 60! Heart disease does not discriminate based on gender or age. Prioritise a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise and quality sleep to prevent your chances.

Myth #3: Cranberry Juice Cures UTIs

While it certainly won’t hurt drinking cranberry juice with a urinary tract infection, it’s not going to cure you. Staying hydrated is critical in getting rid of infection, and while cranberries contain certain compounds that may help flush out the bacteria – the only known cure is antibiotics!

Myth #4: You Don’t Need To See A Gynaecologist If You’re Not Pregnant

Reproductive health check-ups are essential in women regardless of age, sexual activity or any other factors! Preventative screenings are crucial to detecting cancers and other health conditions before they progress.

Myth #5: If You Don’t Have Symptoms, You Don’t Have An STI

A lot of sexually transmitted infections can present no symptoms! And symptoms can vary from woman to woman, making it even harder to know if you have one. Some STIs can lay dormant for months, even in women! So, if you’re concerned, don’t wait for symptoms to strike.

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet! It’s important to educate yourself on health so you can understand it and improve your own if need be.

Our advice? Listen to your doctor, and get regular check-ups to stay on top of your health.
