Why Am I So Bloated?

Starting a new diet is part of a weight loss journey and as you strive to look and feel your best self, you might find yourself a bit bloated. This is not uncommon during the transition period. Bloating is just excess gas building up, which we know can be super uncomfortable! But it’s temporary and easy to manage.
Increased Fibre Intake
If your previous diet didn’t include a lot of fibre and you’ve ramped up your intake for your weight loss journey, this could be the culprit. While fibre is essential for our digestive health, sudden increases can overwhelm the digestive system, leading to gas and bloating. The Lady Shake contains a decent serving of fibre and for good reason, but if you’re noticing some bloat, it’s perfectly normal and won't last long!
Eating Or Drinking Too Quickly
Do not down your shake in a hurry! When we eat or drink too quickly, we’re swallowing a lot more air, which can lead to gas building up in the gastrointestinal tract. It’s important to stay hydrated on your weight loss journey but even drinking something as harmless as water too quickly can cause discomfort and bloat.
Water Retention
If you’re reducing your sodium intake and consuming more carbohydrates, then the water balance in your body can be thrown off! This will lead to temporary water retention and bloating. You can read more about water retention here.
What Can I Do About It?
If you weren’t on a fibre-rich diet before, try gradually increasing your fibre-intake in the meals you cook. Stay hydrated throughout the day to support your digestive system and do your best to eat and sip slowly.
If bloating or discomfort persists, you should consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any underlying conditions and ensure you’re on the right track with your dietary changes. Remember, starting to lose weight is the hardest part and if you’re experiencing bloating, it’s just your body’s first step of adjusting to a happier, healthier you.
