Switching things up goes a long way when it comes to make any food taste better.

Like most people, you try to sustain a healthy-ish diet and exclude certain foods that you don’t stomach well. I’m sure you find yourself eating a lot of the same meals over and over again. Soon enough, that simple tuna salad you have for lunch every day, that you once savored when you took your first bite starts to feel a little old.

A new study published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin has discovered a tactic to get you out of your food rut, and it’s ingeniously simple: to feel that same euphoric rush that you had when you ate something for the very first time, try eating it in an unconventional way.

The study consisted of a number of people who were told they were being a part of experiments to help people eat more slowing.

One of the experiments included 300 hundred participants who were asked to drink plain old water, but in an unconventional way. Whether be it was in a wine glass, a shipping envelope or even lapping at it like a cat – strange I know! However, as expected, those who drank the water in an alternative way enjoyed the water much more than those who had it in a boring, run-of-the-mill bottle.

So if you want to improve your enjoyment levels, from eating to everyday life..  Don’t get new stuff, instead, try performing an everyday task with a new approach than what you already have. Take a new route to work. Take a painting class with your wife. Looking to increase your water intake, drink it out of a wine glass. Add a new spice to an old time favourite recipe.

It’s easier than you may think to make something old feel like new again. But it is also a lot less wasteful to find new ways to enjoy the things we have rather than buying new things.
