Top Foods to have To Avoid The Hangover

The Festive Season is well and truly underway, and what unfortunately comes with a few too many wines is the dreaded hangover. Anyone who has overindulged on one too many glasses of champagne, wine, mixed drinks or beer or possibly all of the above, is familiar with the regrets that come the next day when you feel so sick you just can’t function.

Before you start drinking make sure you eat before drinking your first alcoholic beverage. And stay hydrated – with water, not alcohol!

Thankfully, we asked our resident nutritionist the top foods you need to cure your hangover and bounce back without succumbing to your bed all day. And we warn you now, there is no McDonalds on this list.

Eggs– Eggs are little protein powerhouses and can have us back on our feet in no time. Eggs are packed with amino acids and protein that will help regenerate the liver and flush out the toxins caused by that bottle of champagne you indulged in last night.

Chicken Noodle Soup – This one took us by surprise, full of amino acids, fluid, and sodium that does a great job at restoring our hydration levels. A bowl of chicken noodle soup won’t only taste delicious but could help alleviate that cloudy head.

Tomato on Toast– Tomatoes are full of antioxidants which can help with inflammation and water gain caused by alcohol and decrease that bloated feeling.

Bananas – Full of potassium which is the key to hydration! Bananas are probably our favourite go-to hangover cure and are much more powerful than a bottle of Gatorade!

Oats- Oats for breakfast after a big night are great as they are slow releasing carbs and whats more a recent study from Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that eating starchy carbohydrates like oatmeal after a long night of drinking can improve mood more effectively than consuming simple sugars like a bagel
