When you’re on a road trip it can be hard to find places to stop to eat that aren’t fast food restaurants. It’s a good idea to pack your own snacks like nuts, seeds, unsalted popcorn and wholegrain crackers, but eventually, you’ll need a bigger meal to keep you sustained.

If you’re lucky enough to pass a BP on your long drive, then you have the luxury of purchasing The Lady Shake. Keep an eye out for our tasty and nutritious shakes!

If you’re at a complete loss and must stop at a fast food restaurant, there are a few things you can do to up the nutrition and lower the calorie intake. Swap the beef for grilled chicken or fish. Swap the sugar-filled buns with a wholegrain wrap. Keep an eye out for vegetarian or vegan options, too, as these tend to hold more nutritional value and be less calorie-dense.

Avoid any fried foods, these kinds of foods contain high amounts of fat and low levels of fibre, meaning they’re harder to digest. The slower your body digests food, the slower your body can derive energy from the food, so eating your typical cheeseburger and fries will leave you feeling sluggish, which is the last thing you want on a long drive.

Another tip is to customise your order if the restaurant allows it. Remove sauces and extra meats like bacon and swap out the fries for a side salad without flavourful dressings or opt for fruit.

For some healthier snack food options at a service station if you can’t find The Lady Shake, aim to buy fruits and veggies. Almost every service station sells a fruit salad mix which will give you some sustenance and good sugars.
