Tips For Losing Those Last Few Kilos

Weight loss

If you’ve lost a decent portion of weight, you may find your progress is slowing down the closer you get to your goal. So, with the end teasingly close, why is it so hard to shed the last few kilos?

You’ve Hit A Plateau

Most people hit a weight loss plateau at some point in their journey, and this most likely is because as the body adapts to this new lifestyle, it starts to defend itself against further weight loss! It could also be from eating too little. It might sound strange, but hitting a plateau from not consuming enough calories is possible, and extreme calorie-restricted diets are doing your body a disservice!

Your Metabolism Has Slowed Down

The heavier you are, the more calories you burn at rest! Think about it, your body is carrying excess weight around, so it’s got to work just that extra bit harder to sustain itself. When you’re nearing the end of your journey, you have to put in a bit more effort as your metabolism isn’t exactly working in your favour.

What Should I Do?

Losing those last few kilos can feel like scaling a mountain, but don’t let it get you down! It’s a test of patience to say the least, but with discipline and determination, it’s possible to reach your goal.

  1. Fine-Tune Your Diet: Eating the same foods gets boring pretty quickly, so switch it up! Keep it low-calorie enough for you to remain in a caloric deficit but focus on nutrient-dense foods that will keep you fuller for longer. Your body has adjusted to a new lifestyle, and reassessing your diet might just be the key to reaching your goal.

  2. Up The Exercise: Since your body is burning less calories at rest, you’ll need to mix up your fitness routine to maximise calorie burn. Combine cardio and strength training to encourage fat loss and maintaining lean muscle mass.

  3. Fill Up On Water: We’ve said it before, dehydration can disguise itself as hunger, which too often leads to overeating. Staying hydrated is essential for weight loss, and overall health, plus it’s calorie-free!

  4. Don’t Stress: Weight loss is hard, and there are always going to be bumps in the road, coping with setbacks requires a good mindset, and staying motivated is key. Try to remember that it’s natural for this to happen, so you’re not the only one being challenged!

Treat yourself with kindness, weight loss is rarely linear and everyone has obstacles to overcome. Remember that it’s only temporary and you can and will conquer those last few kilos, and you’ll feel better than ever.
